My favourite thing about the game was the Pitioss Ruins – The weird post game puzzle platform dungeon – I felt it was very intuitive for a game who’s controls weren’t meant for platforming. Handy in the end game when you don’t want to waste time in combat with small time enemies you happen across.
I like the way they did spells as something you have to craft, but to that it’s really easy to craft stupidly overpowered spells that just murder everything in an instant. I will admit that the combat is rather bland at times but it’s not the worst JRPG battle system out there as Ni No Kuni and FF13 are far worse in my personal opinion. leaving fast travel the best option in most cases when you can’t be arsed to run the entire map for the 50th time. Chocobo are relatively slow in comparison, though much faster than walking. The open world level design and terrain are really nice but the fact that you are limited in travelling is definitely a downside as you can only take the car on the road until you can fly and even then failing to land properly is instant death. The summon scenes are a large example of the level of detail that went into it. The graphics are far better than many or most current gen JRPGs or games in general.
Equally so, there are many things about the game that are undeniable.
There are many things about the game I didn’t care for. But the hunts were fun, the music was great, the modern styling was a nice change of pace, and the game was a heck of a lot better than all three FF13 games.Įvery game comes with a modicum of criticism as I mentioned above. The end game was rushed and most of the side mission were boring. The character development and story were shit because the pacing was way off but it was decent enough to keep me entertained for the most part. I will admit it’s definitely not the best JRPG. I never said it was the best game I’ve ever played, I just said it wasn’t the worst piece of shit out there.
